FAQs

Why doesn’t my product look like the website or social media post?

Due to the handmade nature of our products, each item may look a little different than the webpage item or a social media post.

Our candles are made with 100% soy wax; while soy wax is natural, renewable, biodegradable, burns with zero soot and contains zero additives, that also means that frosting may occur. White speckles on the tops or sides of your candle is completely normal and an indicator of 100% soy wax. Just consider it part of the handmade charm!

Why aren’t the soap bars certified organic?

Organic product labels must be reviewed and approved by a USDA-accredited certifying agent before being used in the marketplace. Currently, we may only identify the certified organic ingredients as organic on the information panel. At this point, our small business is unable to embark on the organic certification journey, but it's something we will consider for the future!

How long does a soap bar last?

How long a soap bar last depends on how the soap is stored and how often it is used; keeping the bar in a well draining dish and allowing to dry completely between uses is the key to having your bars last as long as possible.

Around the 8 month mark, you may notice the fragrance of the soap bar start to wane if left unused.

What’s the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils derived of plant matter, usually by cold-pressing (like citrus rinds) or distillation (think lavender or rose petals). Creature of Habit uses organic essential oils well within safe use levels in the bar soap products. Candles scented with essential oils historically do not perform very well in soy candles, so scents are formulated using fragrance oils.

Fragrance oils are synthetically produced with specific compositions, sometimes including natural elements like essential oils or extracts. There are many more fragrance oils available than essential oils, resulting in many more scent options. All fragrance oils used by Creature of Habit are phthalate- and paraben-free and do not contain any ingredients from the Prop 65 list.

What are your eco-friendly and sustainability practices?

First and foremost, we're proud to ship carbon neutral. Here are some of our other sustainability practices:

REDUCE: We hate generating trash here at Creature of Habit, and have fine-tuned our procedures to eliminate waste wherever possible.

REUSE: We reuse the packaging from our vendors so very little goes to waste. We also have a whole webpage dedicated to reusing empty packaging, which you can find in the REUSE page. One of our tips is to give your empty candle jars a new life! Tag @cohselfcare with your reused jars, we’d love to see what you came up with!

RECYCLE: We forgo plastic whenever possible (except when reusing the protective plastic packaging fill we noted above) and instead choose packaging either comprised of recycled materials or that may be recycled.

Are your products vegan?

Yes, Creature of Habit does not test on animals or utilize any animal products in our products.

How does COH give back to the community?

Creature of Habit believes that the power of self-care has the potential to radiate outward. We’re proud to contribute a portion of proceeds from all of our product to mental health advocacy programs. Visit our ADVOCACY page to learn more.

What is your refund policy?

Creature of Habit does not currently accept returns unless your product arrives damaged, tarnished, or if it was a packing mistake on our end. That being said, we want you to be happy with your experience with us, so please reach out to help@cohselfcare.com with any issues.
